We have so much love for our community, and want to take the chance to highlight one athlete each month that exemplifies hard work – if you haven’t met Lauren yet (or even if you have), make sure to give her a hello and high five next time you see her at the gym! You can’t miss her – although she may have sleepy eyes early in the morning, her smile lights up the room!
Here is a little about Lauren’s journey through CrossFit so far:
My personal journey with CrossFit started about a year ago, but I feel like CrossFit has been in my life for as long as I can remember. I’ve been watching my mom do CrossFit for the past 10 years. I was so inspired by her strength, commitment and passion about CrossFit that it seemed like it was something I wanted to try. I also started it because I thought it would help me with strength, mobility and conditioning with the other sports that I do.
Q: Where are you originally from?
I have lived in Atlanta my entire life.
Q: What class do you attend?
I usually attend the 6am class before school a couple mornings a week.
Q: Do you have a favorite workout or movement? Least favorite?
My favorite workouts typically include rowing, wall balls, or front squats.
My least favorite workouts are snatches, overhead squats, and push-ups.
Q: What’s your favorite hobby, pastime or interest outside of school (other than CrossFit)?
I play competitive soccer during the fall and spring, and school basketball in the winter. I also love to play tennis, read, and spend time with my friends.
Q: Favorite music to work out to or just listen to in general?
I don’t really mind what type of music we listen to when working out, but I think it’s funny when the coaches play different genres, like late 90s and early 2000s that gets some of the other people in my class really excited.
Q: What is something that we may not know about you?
Something that may surprise you about me is that I play trumpet in my high school jazz band.
Q: Favorite Atlanta Restaurant?
My favorite Atlanta restaurant would probably have to be Yeah! Burger.
Q: Favorite moment at CF Terminus?
My favorite moment at CF Terminus was recently, when a few girls from the 6am class and I did pull-ups during Open workout 18.3. This was my first time doing real pull-ups in a workout and I was really excited to get 36!
Q: How has CrossFit affected your life (inside/outside of the gym)?
I have really enjoyed getting to know people outside of my regular friend groups, and becoming a part of this great community. Because of CrossFit, I have gained confidence in other areas of my life, realized that I am more willing to try new things and am not afraid of experiences that might be uncomfortable.
Q: Any advice for someone considering trying CrossFit for the first time?
My advice to anyone considering trying CrossFit for the first time is not to be intimidated or afraid, because you will benefit from CrossFit no matter your age and past athletic experience.
We are so glad to have you as part of our Terminus Community, Lauren! It has truly been a joy to watch you grow stronger as an athlete and blossom into a confident, brave young woman! We know that you will conquer any challenge that comes your way and we look forward to continuing to be a part of your health and fitness journey.
