We have so much appreciation for our community, and love to highlight one athlete each month that exemplifies hard work and commitment. Meet EmRo! EmRo is a staple-member of the Terminus fam, not only within the gym, but spearheading sports outside of Memorial drive too! Catch her pulling flags in Piedmont Park with Terminus flag football, or winning championships in the pool with the snapping Pandas! Let’s dive (pun intended) into her journey at Terminus a little further, and make sure to give her a high five the next time you see her in the gym!
Q: How long have you been going to Terminus? What changes have you seen in yourself (physically or mentally) since joining?
I’ve been at Terminus for seven years this summer. I’ve gone from a 24-year-old recent college grad who knew no one in Atlanta to a full-blown adult with a community of friends centered around this gym. It hasn’t always been linear growth, but I’ve become a better, stronger person because of Terminus.
Q: How has your journey at Terminus helped you outside the gym?
I’ve met my future husband and made friendships that will last a lifetime. It gives me a competitive outlet and a reason to leave the house and decompress—especially when working from home.
Q: Who inspires you at the gym, and how do they inspire you?
Coach Chase is my inspiration. He always puts himself in my shoes and helps me figure out how to get the best workout possible. He has an awesome career, an amazing family (and puppy!), and still manages to stay competitive at the gym. I hope to be like Chase when I grow up!
Q: How would you describe what it’s like to be a part of Terminus?
I’ve had a lot of friends move to new cities and struggle to make friends as adults. When I moved to Atlanta and joined Terminus, I had a group of friends—and weekend plans—within weeks. I still remember when Ellie Hoover invited me to brunch after Saturday class for the first time. That’s what Terminus is all about, and I’ll be forever grateful to be a part of it.
Q: Tell us about your first day of class at Terminus.
I was testing a few gyms around Atlanta—Terminus was the farthest from my work but looked interesting online. I walked in and saw about eight incredibly fit women (and Coach Patrick). The gals weren’t overly friendly at first, which I appreciated—I’d rather have real than fake. We did power cleans, and I was sold.
Q: What is something that we may not know about you?
I’m a huge sports fan — from Texas Football (Hook’em) to Formula 1 races, we almost always have sports on at home. If I’m not watching sports, it’s reality TV, but I’m sure y’all already knew that.
Q: What are your top 3 memories or proudest moments in CrossFit?
When Sara and I beat Laura and Amanda at Pensacola Beach Brawl (bloody hands and all!)
Winning the Terminus Flag Football League championship(s)
When the police were called to my first Terminus Halloween party because it was such a rager
Q: Moving forward, do you have any short-term or long-term goals in the gym?
I truly just want to stay healthy, stay consistent, and beat my friends in as many workouts as possible.
